Golden Poppies
宇都宮市大人社会人のための英会話MEC
In Japan, spring means it's time to see the cherry blossoms. In California, spring means it's "poppy season". The golden poppy is the state flower of California, and can be seen across fields and hillsides all over the state. Anywhere in the state is good to see the poppies, but Antelope Valley in Los Angeles is regarded as the best viewing spot. Recently, California has been getting a lot of rain, which could result in a "super bloom" (more golden poppies than usual). Though I can't see the flowers for myself this year, I look forward to enjoying photos of them from friends and family.

日本では、春といえば「桜の季節」を思い浮かべます。一方、カリフォルニアでは春といえば「ポピーの季節」です。カリフォルニアの州花である「ゴールデンポピー」は州内の野原や丘でよく見られます。カリフォルニア州内なら、どこでも見られますが、ロサンゼルスのアンテロープバレーでの景色が一番です。最近、カリフォルニアは雨が多いので、「スーパー・ブルーム」（ポピーが大量に咲く現象）が起こるかもしれません。今年私はこの花を見ることはできませんが、友人や家族から写真を送ってもらうのを楽しみにしています。
