栃木県宇都宮市にある社会人のための英会話教室「マコーマック・イングリッシュコーチング」

 

I’m sure when most people hear Oktoberfest, they think of large steins of ale and German beer halls.  But for me, the word recalls a cherished tradition from where I grew up.  Every October, a small festival by the same name takes place in a suburb of Los Angeles.  There are musical performances by local bands.  There are hard-to-win game booths and a flea market.  There’s even low-stakes bingo.  The food, featuring Filipino, Mexican, and American classics, is a definite highlight.  But the best part is the community atmosphere of neighbors coming together for three days of work and fun.  The festival wasn’t held for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, but when I called my mom last weekend, she was at this year’s event.  Even though I couldn’t be there, it truly warmed my heart to know that Oktobest had returned to my little corner of L.A.

 

 

 

 

オクトーバーフェストと聞くと、多くの人が思い浮かべるのは大きなジョッキのビールと

ドイツのビアホールではないでしょうか。

私にとってのオクトーバーフェストは私の故郷の大切な伝統を思い出せてくれます。

毎年10月、ロサンゼルスの郊外で同じ名前の小さなお祭りが催されます。

地元のバンドが音楽を奏で、ゲームコーナーやフリーマーケット、ビンゴ大会など様々なお店が出店されます。

フィリピン料理、メキシコ料理、定番のアメリカ料理が振舞われます。

ご近所さんみんなが集まって3日間を楽しみます。

新型コロナウィルスにより、2年ほど開催されませんでしたが、

先週、母に電話をしてみたら、お祭りの真っ最中でした。

私はその場にいることはできませんでしたが、ロサンゼルスの小さな町に

オクトーバーフェストが戻ったときいて、心が温まりました。
